I am back with another product from Oscarware. In my two previous blogs ‘Make Sizzling Shrimp Bowls with Oscarware Grill Toppers” and “Grilling a Whole Chicken to Perfection with Oscarware’s Roast and Rib Rack” I introduced Planet Barbecue to Oscarware Grill Toppers. The latest grill topper I received is the Oscarware Griddle Topper. It works just like a plancha or a flat top grill.
Oscarware Griddle Topper
If you missed my previous blogs, let me introduce you to Oscarware Grill Toppers. They have been making outdoor cooking accessories since 1989. They offer a range of grill toppers that include their porcelain coated, disposable, and round grill toppers. The porcelain grill topper was the original and is still one of Oscarware’s most popular products.
All Oscarware Grill Toppers are 100% recyclable and made in Bonnieville, Kentucky. The grill toppers allow the grilling enthusiast to cook foods that might present a challenge on the grill. They are ideal for pizza, fish, seafood, and vegetables.
The porcelain coating does not react to tomato, vinegar and citrus based sauces making it safer than other coatings. The Oscarware porcelain toppers are constructed with high quality and safe materials. The perforated-porcelain grill topper also prevents you from losing food through the grill grates.
Oscarware’s Griddle Topper reminded me of a plancha or a flat top, so I thought it would be perfect for cooking breakfast. It would also be great for fajitas, burgers, and fish. The rimmed edges contain any drippings that would cause flare-ups. The strong formed handles make it safe and easy to carry food from the grill to your table.
Vanilla Bean French Toast
I have never made French toast but like to order when I am out for breakfast. While at the Alisal Ranch for Barbecue University this year, I ordered vanilla bean French toast for breakfast, and it was delicious.
Here is my first attempt at French toast and I am going to try and replicate the French toast I ate at the Alisal ranch.
I started by heating up my gas grill to medium high heat. While the grill heated up, I made my custard for the French toast. To make the custard I whisked together three eggs, one cup of milk, 2 tbsp on sugar, 3/4 tsp of cinnamon, 3/4 tsp of Kosher salt, and the insides of one vanilla bean. Next, I sliced one-inch slices from a loaf of brioche bread. Then I placed the Oscarware Griddle Topper on the grill.
I dropped the bread slices into custard for thirty seconds on each side. Then I melted 2 tbsp of butter with 2 tbsp of oil on the Oscarware Griddle Topper to ligjtly oil. Each piece of Frensh toast cooked for 3 minutes on each side. To accompany the French toast, I cooked breakfast sausages on the griddle topper. To boost the vanilla flavor, I placed the used vanilla bean in the maple syrup I heated on the side burner.
I topped the French toast with vanilla infused syrup and garnished it with a light dusting of powdered sugar. The French toast developed a crusty exterior and the interior was light and airy. I enjoyed the sweet aroma of the French toast. The sausages were crispy due to the heat of the griddle topper. The vanilla infused maple syrup was next level and tied the whole meal together.
Thanks to Oscarware for sending me their flat top griddle topper.
